Roxy Paine on the Roof of the Met

Currently on view at the Metropolitan Museum of Art until October 25th, is Roxy Paine’s installation on the roof: Maelstrom.  Contrary to the title of the piece, most people seemed to find the sculpture to be relatively peaceful.  Museumgoers took photographs hugging the branch-like extensions and little children played among the tentacles.  Maelstrom is an extremely successful site-specific piece, working perfectly within its environment on the roof and against the backdrop of Central Park.
